Today I am planning to write the future of Bangladesh. When it will happen, I do not know but I assume it is a distant future; I am talking about may be 15 – 20 years later. If it does not happen then this writing is a fairy tale and a good read. So, whenever there is a line that says “it will happen”, the reader can assume that it is a fairy tale. I am thus not going to use ‘may happen’ because there is no fun in that.
Before I go to that future scenario, I want to say a few words why I am writing it. From my childhood, I knew that my family comes from a so-called “Pir” family and there was something in the air that said we are moving away from our special gifts. Personally, I think my great forefathers had a good “Pir” business. However trying to understand the future was a fancy thing always in my mind and I have developed a mindset that looks for information in that regard. I wish to give a few examples also.
In 1995, I felt computer graphics and multimedia will be a great thing, bought graphics software from New York, and I joined Fine Arts against the wind. I had a terribly bad time convincing artists and suffered a lot for my futuristic anticipation. But it happened. In 2001, I felt special and visual effects will be great thing in the media and moved into it. I bought a lot of books from Singapore and learned it all by myself. I again failed to convince anyone in the media, but visual effect has picked up by now.
In Facebook, I mentioned there will be a button to download past statuses and one day the button appeared. I said one day Bangladeshi Facebook users will fill it up with Bangla pages and eventually that happened. I said stock market will crush and my students argued that the systems are better than 1996 and criminals cannot escape. They did not listen. Just few days ago I said hackers may hack into computers of political parties and my friends laughed. We now know Bangladeshi hackers have acted.
I said that there is a strong possibility that black money from Bangladesh is getting laundered through China and may be one day it will be found. I once said that we need a ‘princess’ in the future political scenario of Bangladesh to balance the two ‘princes’. Only time will say if my assumption is current, but my colleagues cautioned me not to write like that. The point is, I like to look into future and get upset when nobody looks into the clues I do and things eventually happen. I have no interest to harm others.
So, out of frustration and understanding that whatever I felt were just an entrepreneurial ‘alertness’, I am planning to write a very distant future of Bangladesh. If it happens in my lifetime then I will assume I am good in what I do. If it never happens then this writing is just a fairy tale. It is related to politics, a subject in which I am not an expert, but in class ten I wrote a few thousand words in a notebook about my new ideology to replace capitalism and communism, which I believe not a lot of tenth grade students do.
Now let me come to the future of Bangladesh. Recently, we have seen a number of killings in the India-Bangladesh border and there was this so-called cyber war, which let me read a few comments in Indian newspapers. Previously, there was a coup attempts in Bangladesh and I read the Indian Army in the border areas were alert to provide support to the Sheikh Hasina government if required. India is having transit facilities in Bangladesh and bilateral trade is good. We can assume that India has become a very big issue in the political dynamics of Bangladesh.
Here I saw something which probably very few people identified and I believe my text shall now become a fairy tale to most. I can see that there are a huge number of people inside India, allegedly Bangladeshi, living in denial. Now being an empirical researcher sitting in Glasgow, I cannot say that there is even a single illegal Bangladeshi inside India, but if there is a huge population then my prediction holds. We have read about push-backs and push-ins, we have seen border killings and we have read stories about minority oppressions. If I exaggerate that for the sake of my story and say there is a huge number of people inside India who are afraid of their identity, regularly persecuted, tortured, have no place to say home, and do not have sense of nationality, then one day they can become a powerful political entity.
Suppose (in this fairy tale) this nameless, nationality-less, allegedly Bangladeshi population amounts to 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 crore people at a very distant future point of time. They start to feel okay we have faced enough oppression, we are not equally treated as Indians, and Bangladesh does not recognise us, so now let us identify each other and help each other. Then there is a scope for a political genius to unite this population and give them hope for identity and better days. At that point, India will not be able to push-them back anywhere. Additionally, if there is a similar allegedly Pakistani illegal migrant population inside India, it will become quite a big challenge.
Then gradually, we Bangladeshi will come to know that there are a huge number of people inside India and they have surfaced claiming to be a Bengali speaking nation by themselves with roots in Bangladesh. They have a political leader and that leader has united them to find an identity. Whoever will be at the political arena in Bangladesh at that time will be positively or negatively affected by that political entity and can turn it into favour.
Now, I do not know if there is a scattered population inside India and cannot even know. But what I know is that there is an opportunity for a political genius inside Bangladesh or inside India, either Hindu or Muslim or belonging to any other religion, to see if there is such a population. If they are killed in the border, they are suppressed inside. Then those people can be connected, networked, motivated, inspired, and united to become a recognisable political entity. My (fairy tale) prediction says this will happen.
I did not write this from a dream or a vision coming in my sleep. I wrote this because I understand the information around me reading between the lines. Previously, my predictions occurred but they had no vital importance. This time I am writing many years in advance so that I personally will be able to understand myself better. Please leave your comments if you find the story interesting in any way.
